The NZ Government needs to step up massively for Education for Maori.
In international education testing NZ is known for having the biggest gaps between those doing well and those doing poorly. On average, firmly locked in the doing poorly group are Maori, Pasifika and low income families.
Not only have things been this way for a long time but they are getting worse.
Last year only 38.8% of Maori participants passed the Numeracy tests needed to get Level 1 NCEA (our most basic qualification). For Europeans it was 63%.
