NZ children need much better from the Minister of Education than highly simplistic responses to complex situations.
Like many other educators I was stunned by Erica Stanford’s statement to the Education and Workforce Committee last week. i.e. “Every brain learns the same.”
I don’t need to say much except include a quote from world leading Nuero-Scientist David Eagleman (Stanford).
"David Eagleman suggests that while the basic neural architecture is similar across brains, individual brains learn and adapt in unique ways due to life experiences and genetic predispositions. He emphasizes that the brain is highly malleable and constantly rewiring itself, but the specific pathways and connections formed are unique to each individual.”
Eagleman’s book - The Brain: The Story of You - would be a recommended read for the Minister.

Thanks Alwyn, that's a big assumption Erica made. We spend half our lives discovering how we learn best, and the rest trying to learn the things we have missed. Wouldn't politicians want to be better informed?
